ICWE 2012 will be organized by the team of Professor Tolksdorf at Freie Universität Berlin. Berlin has an outstanding research landscape in computer science. The four large universities in an surrounding Berlin (Freie Universität Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Universität Potsdam) each offer computer science and information systems degrees. Berlin and Potsdam host various further research institutions like several Fraunhofer Institutes or the Hasso-Plattner-Institut in Potsdam. The upcoming EU Knowledge Innovation Center on ICT as part of the European Institute of Technology will be located in Berlin. The Freie Universität Berlin can be found in the south-western part of Berlin – in Dahlem – which is a quiet area of the city but directly connected to the western and the eastern city center. Berlin is the capital of Germany and with round about 3.4 million inhabitants the second largest city within the European Union and offers interesting intercultural activities and experiences. The Freie Universität Berlin, as one of nine top-universities, won the German Universities Excellence Initiative focusing the strategy of an international network university.
Conference Venue
The conference will take place in the on-campus conference hotel Seminaris. The building with a size of about 10,000 sqm is the „new center“ of Berlin-Dahlem with the a superb architecture by Helmut Jahn. Complementary gastronomy and selected services round off the offer and create a new site of meetings not only for the scientific community. The new Seminaris CampusHotel Berlin is a unique science and conference center with hotel of international standard in the capital. It is open to all institutes that organize congresses and meet - ings such as science, private enterprises and public associations, appreciating the flair of science and research on a university campus as well as seeking international hospitality. About 2,600 sqm highly flexible conference-, seminar- and meeting-rooms will be put up in “The Dahlem Cube”. The largest room „Domus Variabilis“ seating up to 700 people as well as the 15 seminar, meeting and conference facilities offer state-of-the-art AV-technology and equipment and create a prosperous atmosphere for successful meetings.
